Dr. Anastassia E. Kossioni is Professor of Gerodontology at the School of Dentistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She received postgraduate training in Gerodontology at the University of London (The London Hospital Medical College), where she obtained her Master of Science in Gerodontics. She also received a Postgraduate Certificate in “Open and Distance Learning” at the Hellenic Open University where she worked as an Editor in Distance Learning Material and Tutor in Adult Education.
She has served as President and Honorary Secretary of the European College of Gerodontology, where she currently serves as Chair of the Education Committee and has been awarded the title of Honorary Member.
She has also served as member of the Academic Board and as Co-Chair of the Special Interest Group in Gerodontology at the European Geriatric Medicine Society.
She has coordinated and co-authored the development of European guidelines for the education of healthcare professionals in Gerodontology, as well as guidelines for the promotion of oral health among older adults. For several years, she has designed and implemented oral health promotion programmes for older people living both in the community and in residential care facilities. At the same time, she provides training to healthcare professionals and caregivers in delivering daily oral care to vulnerable population groups, contributing to improvements in their quality of life and overall health.
